Bollywoods Top Five Hindi Films Movies of all time

1. Sholey

It is the biggest hit in the history of Bollywood, India's Hindi film industry. Released on 15 August 1975, it stars Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Jaya Bhaduri and Amjad Khan. The movie, shot in the rocky terrain of Ramanagara, Karnataka, is the story of two petty criminals hired to capture, for a bounty, a ruthless dacoit by the name of Gabbar Singh. Sholay is the highest grossing film of all time in Indian cinema. It has earned Rs. 768,81,00,000, equivalent to US$ 160 million, after adjusting for inflation. When first released, the film was declared a commercial disaster. Word of mouth convinced movie-goers to give the film a chance and soon it became a box-office phenomenon. It ran for 286 weeks straight (more than five years) in one Mumbai theatre, the Minerva. Sholay racked up a still-record 60 golden jubilees across India and doubled its original gross over reruns during the late 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. Sholay was the first film in the history of Indian cinema to celebrate silver jubilee (25 weeks) at over a hundred theatres across India.

2. 3 Idiots

it is a 2009 Bollywood comedy film directed by Rajkumar Hirani, with a screenplay by Abhijat Joshi, and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It was loosely adapted from the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat. 3 Idiots stars Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor, Omi Vaidya, Parikshit Sahni and Boman Irani. 3 Idiots is the "highest grossing Bollywood movie of all time."[2] The film set a box office record for the Indian film industry, grossing Rs 315 crore ($70 million) worldwide within 18 days of release.[3] It is expected to be the first Indian film to be officially released on YouTube, within 12 weeks of releasing in theatres.



3. Gadar

it is a 2001 Bollywood movie starring Sunny Deol, Amisha Patel, and Amrish Puri.

Set in 1947 during the Partition of India, the film tells the story of a truck driver, Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), a Sikh, who falls in love with a Muslim girl, Sakeena (Amisha Patel), belonging to an aristocratic family.

The story begins with sikh and hindus being attacked by muslims in Pakistan when trying to return to India on a train. To get revenge the sikhs and hindus react with doing the similar thing. During the Hindu-Muslim riots that erupted soon after the Partition, Tara saves Sakina from a murderous mob chasing her as she failed to get onto the train by being pushed and lost in the crowd. As the mob want to rape her and the murder her, Tara Singh defends Sakina and then converts her to Sikhism in order to protect her. while driving back to Tara's house, the story has a major backflash showing the relationship between Tara and Sakina was before this incident and how they knew each others. Tara is a lorry driver, but his real ambition is to become a singer. Some girls in college that are friends of Sakina fool Tara that they have got him a shot a annual music show in return for a favour that Tara Singh did them. Tara performs badly in from of the music teacher, who is portrayed by Shakina (Amisha Patel) as asked to by their friends. His friend then gives him tablets which helps him re perform and prove his singing skills. Soon after it is shown that Sakina is not the real music teacher, which saddens him. When performing on the music function Sakina announces that she will not do her act instead gives Tara a chance to sing despite the will against the seniors within the college. Subsequently and then back to present, Sakena starts living in Tara’s house and the respect culminates into love

4. Hum Aapke Hain Kaun

it is a 1994 Bollywood film directed by Sooraj Barjatya, is a remake of their own production's earlier movie Nadiya Ke Paar (1982).HAHK is considered to be the most successful Bollywood films ever. The film is a story of two Indian families and the relationships between them, celebrating Indian culture using modern production values. It is noted for its lavish depictions of North Indian wedding ceremonies. Its soundtrack, including an unusually large number of 14 songs, was scored by Raam Lakshman. Hum Aapke Hain Kaun stars Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit, two of the top Bollywood stars of the 1990s. The film was very influential and inspired young filmmakers such as Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar. It was dubbed into Telugu as Premalayam. Madhuri Dixit won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and was also nominated in the same category for her critically acclaimed performance in Anjaam which was released that same year


5. Mother India

it is a 1957 Bollywood film directed by Mehboob Khan and starring Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar and Raj Kumar. The film is a remake of Mehboob Khan's earlier film Aurat (1940).[1] The film was fifth Indo-Russian co-production, and was preceded by Pardesi (1957), also starring Nargis Dutt.[2] In 2005, Indiatimes Movies ranked the movie amongst the Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films.[3] The film ranked #3 in the list of all-time box office hits.[4] The film was India's first submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1958, and was chosen as one of the five nominations for the category. The film came close to winning the award, but eventually lost to Frederico Fellini's Nights of Cabiria by a single vote
